Yesterday I had the day off. I spent my time buying new goods for the booth space and watching The Runaways on repeat. Here's the thing, it wasn't all that bad. I should mention, however, that I am a sucker for period films set in the 1970s. So perhaps I'm a little biased. Favorite part of the movie? The hanging chair seen below. Swoooooooon.

Porcelain Enamel Signs
Finally, custom enamel signs! Working at a place that specializes in English imports, we get a lot of enamelware. But I've hunted high and low for a "62" for our house to no avail. Until now! www.ramsign.com offers custom porcelain enamel signs in 5 different styles. I'm leaning toward "Engelhardt" at the moment, originally created in 1927 by Danish architect Knud V. Engelhardt.
Above is the "Metropolitan" sign which Ramsign describes as "European sign tradition at its best." I might have trouble narrowing down my sign choice after all! Visit www.ramsign.com for more information!

Balthus
I love this image of Balthus. The black cat reminds me of my own (more on how amazing black cats are later). More on how amazing Balthus is later!

Book Wish List
I have so many books on my wish list, but here are a few that will more than likely be purchased sooner rather than later!
1. Vera: The Art and Life of an Icon by Susan Seid
Published by Abrams Sept, 2010
Orla Kiely's products are well worth the price tag. I've had the same Orla wallet for three years now and I can't imagine life without it! Her patterns are also visually pleasing and stunning at the same time, with just a twist of 1960s and 1970s nostalgia thrown in for good measure.
3. The Elements of Style Illustrated by William Strunk, Jr.
Published by Penguin
Gaaaahhh! The inner nerd in me loves the concept of this book. Although I will never replace my original Elements given to me by my high school English teacher, this would make a great companion piece. While my grammar is not always correct, at least I can correct it with a little bit of style and substance!
4. Maira Kalman: Various Illuminations (of a Crazy World) by Ingrid Schaffner
Published by Prestel USA
This is a retrospective book of Kalman's work, ranging from illustrator and author to designer. I love the off-kilter style that often comprises Kalman's illustrations.
5. Creative, Inc.: The Ultimate Guide to Running a Successful Freelance Business by Joy Deangdeelert Cho and Meg Mateo Ilasco
Published by Chronicle Books
As someone starting out on her own freelance business of sorts, this book is essential. I've heard nothing but amazing reviews and I have been a devout follower of Joy Cho's blog Oh Joy! for several years. I pretty much trust her judgment when it comes to managing a successful business. Add to that the expertise of Meg Ilasco, whose work ranges from stationary and home products to Creative Director of Anthology Magazine coming out soon (which deserves its own post!)!
1. Vera: The Art and Life of an Icon by Susan Seid
Published by Abrams Sept, 2010
For many, many reasons this is on the top of my list. I LOVE Vera Neumann and often times when I am searching for Jive Supply goods, I am also hunting for anything Vera. My knowledge of textiles is somewhat limited, but that's okay. Because as long as there's Vera, that's all I need!
2. Pattern by Orla Kiely
